Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the largest of the seven Emirates, constituting over 85% of the nation’s total land area. Abu Dhabi possesses 10% of the world's oil, 5% of its gas reserves and produces 90% of oil in the UAE.

Situated on the south east of the Arabian Peninsula, Abu Dhabi has risen from a small fishing and pearling village to one of the richest and most sophisticated cities in the world. Following the discovery of oil in 1958, subsequent exports produced an upsurge in Abu Dhabi's prosperity, with significant investments made in infrastructure and development which laid the foundations for a modern society.
The Abu Dhabi 2030 vision reiterates the city’s commitment to be among the world’s leading cities in the years to come. The city offers its cosmopolitan population the chance to pursue a very attractive lifestyle. A busy metropolis of spectacular high rise towers, shopping malls, restaurants and luxurious hotels, coupled with a unique charm where old world courtesies and etiquette still prevail, the city is an outstanding example of how cultural change and economic development can be progressively achieved over time.
The government of Abu Dhabi has been extremely proactive in introducing long-term measures and policies. The government has actively attempted to diversify its economy in recent years through investments in diversified sectors.
As Abu Dhabi’s economy strengthened and diversified over the years, the city’s profile and reputation as a powerhouse within the Middle East has risen in the international arena. The region’s current boom conditions are witnessing unprecedented buoyancy and optimism, fuelling a spirit of determination and driving achievement, resulting in spectacular growth and exceptional opportunities.
With a population of 1.6 million, Abu Dhabi is the centre of government and business activities in the UAE. Tourism is also an important aspect contributing to the growth of Abu Dhabi. According to latest reports by Colliers International, corporate tourism accounts for 80% of the hotel demand in Abu Dhabi.
With the city’s unique mix of traditional Arabian charm and its beautiful beaches, fantastic shopping destinations and top international avenues, Abu Dhabi offers an ideal destination for tourism and business.
Cultural sites abound in Abu Dhabi, whose name implies “Father of the Gazelle” most likely due to the large number of gazelles and oryx that once flocked the emirate’s arid deserts. These heritage sites provide holiday makers with a glimpse of this emirate’s storied past - reaching as far back as 5000 BC - and an understanding of its people’s culture, values and aspirations. Being the capital, Abu Dhabi also houses embassies and hosts ambassadors from all over the world.
